Privacy: what's kept and what isn't?

In shortYazsın sends your voice only when you tap the Speak button, and it doesn't keep your voice on its servers. The texts it writes for you stay in your account's History for 90 days, unless you switch History off.

This article covers Yazsın's current test versions: Android, iPhone and Mac.

Your voice

  • It's recorded only when you tap the Speak button. On a Mac it starts with the talk key and stops when you finish.
  • To be turned into text, it's sent over a secure connection to our servers and to the service that turns speech into text.
  • Once the text is back, the recording is deleted from your device. Yazsın doesn't keep your voice on its servers. The service that turns speech into text may keep it for a limited time to prevent abuse.
  • If sending fails, the recording stays on your phone for a short time so you can try again: at most one minute on Android, and on iPhone at most two minutes, or until you close the error screen in Yazsın.

What Yazsın writes: History

  • The texts Yazsın writes for you are kept in your account's History, so you can find, copy or fix them later.
  • With each text we also keep when it was written, on which device and, when known, which app it went into. If you fixed a text in History, your fixed version is kept too.
  • Texts older than 90 days are deleted automatically in our daily cleanup.
  • You can delete them one by one or all at once, whenever you like.
  • You can switch History off. While it's off, no new texts are kept. Texts kept before stay until you delete them or the 90 days are up.
  • If you delete your account, your History is deleted at once too.
  • If you use Yazsın with a personal access key instead of an account, the texts it writes for you aren't kept on our servers.

On iPhone and Android, go to Settings, then Privacy and data. There you can turn off Keep history or tap Delete history.

If your app doesn't have these yet, write to merhaba@yazsin.com and we'll do it for you.

On your device

  • On the phone, the last text stays on your device for a short time, for Undo and Redo.
  • If Yazsın uses an access key on your phone instead of an account, History stays on the phone: on Android the last 200 texts, for up to 30 days, and on iPhone up to 30 days. You can delete one or all of them.
  • On a Mac, the texts in the Yazsın window stay on that Mac, up to 1000. If you turn off Keep history on this Mac, the history saved on that Mac is deleted. After that, only the last 10 texts of the session stay, in memory.

Your words and fixes

When you fix a text Yazsın wrote, Yazsın learns the words that changed, for you.

For this, both the version Yazsın wrote and your fixed version are sent.

  • To learn, only short word pairs are kept on the server. For example, Kaitlin to Katelyn.
  • Numbers, web addresses and email addresses aren't learned.
  • The names and words you add to My words are kept on the server too, up to 100.
  • When you talk, your words and the words you fixed are sent as hints to the service that turns speech into text, so they're heard right.
  • All of these stay until you delete them or your account. You can delete any of them. On a Mac, you'll find what Yazsın learned in My words, under Your fixes.
  • We also count how many people make the same fix, so Yazsın writes better for everyone. For this count, the word pair and a code made from you, without your name, are kept for 30 days, then deleted. The count never holds your whole text.
  • A fix that at least 20 people make, or one that at least 2 people make and our team checks one by one, can become a rule for everyone. That rule isn't linked to you, and it stays.
  • The word you fix can be a name. Then that name is part of the word pair.
  • On a Mac, what you bring over from another app (words, fixes, saved texts and history) is kept by the same rules.

What you type on the keyboard

  • What you type with the keys isn't sent anywhere on its own.
  • The one exception: if you fix a word Yazsın just wrote, the text and your fix are sent so Yazsın can learn that word. To learn, only the changed words are kept.
  • On Android, the Speak button turns off in password boxes. On iPhone, password boxes open the iPhone's own keyboard.
  • The emoji you used last stay only on your device.

What we count

For usage limits, we count how many times a day you talk to Yazsın, the total size of the recordings and how many minutes a month you talk. If you see words appear while you speak, we also count how many minutes you use that.

To show how much time Yazsın saves you, we also count each day how many words you say (Turkish and English counted separately), how long the text takes to arrive, how many words Yazsın fixed, and on which kind of device and in what kind of app (messages, email, search) you talk.

  • These are numbers only. They never include what you said.
  • If you delete your account, these are deleted too.

Your account

  • You don't need to give your name or email to use Yazsın. The iPhone and Android apps open an account for you without a name.
  • If you like, you can protect your account with Apple, Google or your email. Then your email address, or your Apple or Google link, is kept by our sign-in service in the European Union.
  • We don't keep the code we email you to sign in.
  • If you delete your account, your History, words, fixes and usage numbers are deleted at once. Your sign-in record is deleted too.
