Voice typing in two languages in one sentence

If you mix in words from the other language, they can come out wrong. For free, you can switch the keyboard language before each message. What your phone's free voice typing does

iPhone: Apple's help says Dictation works in the language of the keyboard you're using. To dictate in another language, you switch to that language's keyboard. Apple's help pages don't describe mixing two languages in one dictation.

Android (Gboard): Gboard listens in the language of the keyboard that's selected, and you switch with the space bar or the globe key. On Pixel 6 and later, Google's advanced voice typing can detect the spoken language automatically, but only for English, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish. Turkish isn't on that list.

You can test this in a minute. Say this sentence into your phone's keyboard microphone and look at what it writes:

"Mom, the meeting ran late, akşam yemeğine yetişemem."

What you can do for free

Keep the keyboard in the language you use most in that message.
Before a long sentence in the other language, switch: hold the globe key on iPhone, or hold the space bar in Gboard.
Fix single words from the other language by hand before you send.

With Yazsın: two languages, one message

What is Yazsın? Yazsın is a voice typing keyboard for iPhone and Android, in English and Turkish. You tap Speak, talk, and it writes what you said with the punctuation and capitals in place.

You don't need to choose a language to talk in Yazsın. When you speak, it always understands both English and Turkish. English words usually come out in English and Turkish words in Turkish, with ç, ğ, ı, ö, ş and ü in place.

An example:

Akşam yemeğine yetişemem: I won't make it to dinner.

The "hmm" is gone, the capitals and periods are in, and each part stays in its own language. Yazsın won't get every word right every time, so glance at the text before you send. If a word comes out wrong, fix it once and Yazsın learns it.

It works in WhatsApp, email and most apps where a keyboard opens.
